House Rules, Policies, and Other Stuff

Here's where you'll find information about our policies, procedures, and other odds and ends that you'll need to know.

  • Sleeping bags, warm blankets, warm clothes--it can get cold at night in the country in September! If you're staying in a cabin, beds are provided, but you must bring your own bedding.

  • Flashlight/lantern
  • Rain gear

  • Allergy & other medications
  • Special dietary items
  • Spending money (buy those holiday gifts early!)

  • Sports equipment (softball gloves, etc.), tennis racquet, yoga mat
  • Bathing suit
  • Drums and other musical instruments
  • folding/beach chair if you want
  • Binoculars
  • Suntan Lotion, Bug Spray, Water Bottles
  • Comfortable shoes

Loading/Unloading

Although we do not allow campers to drive their vehicles into camp to load and unload their gear, there will be shuttle vans running on Friday and Sunday to transport women and their stuff to and from the general vicinity of their cabin or tenting area. However - unless you have a physical disability or special need, you will be ultimately responsible for getting your gear to your cabin or tent. Please keep this in mind when you pack for the Weekend. We recommend that you bring a carry cart if you have lots of gear.

Meals

We are reputed to have the best food of any lesbian/feminist festival! Meals will be served beginning with lunch on Friday and ending with lunch on Sunday. Meals will include dishes for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians, and will be served only at designated times (if you get hungry between meals or after hours, our general store snack bar serves up burgers, dogs, fries, wings, sodas and other refreshments from before noon until the wee hours of the AM). If you have particular dietary needs, you must come prepared to provide for yourself. We will not be able to prepare individual meals, or provide food storage or cooking facilities. Ice can be purchased from the general store.

Workshifts

In the spirit of community, every woman attending the Weekend is asked to do a 2-hour workshift. A $30 deposit is required upon registration, which will be refunded after the workshift is completed, at scheduled refunding times. We don't want to keep your $30; we need every woman to contribute her energy and skills. The Weekend is created from the volunteer energies of many women, and we need your help to make it work for all of us. There are a variety of time slots to sign up for, and jobs to do!

Infirmary/Health Care

The staff in the infirmary will address emergency first aid and sudden illness needs only. The staff is unable to provide for routine health care, and you must bring any personal medications you need. If your health care needs are beyond our capabilities, we will arrange transportation to the local emergency room.

Accessibility

The camp is easily negotiated - no big hills or tons of steps. We do have a wheelchair accessible cabin for those who use wheelchairs, and offer a shuttle for women with mobility concerns. We also offer ASL interpreters for performances (advance notice requested).

Kids' Policy

Female children and adolescents of all ages are welcome at the Weekend. Male children ages 7 and under only are allowed.

Alcohol policy

Due to the severe increase in insurance costs, we no longer sell alcoholic beverages at the Weekend. If you are age 21 or older, you may bring your own if you choose. Everyone attending the Weekend is responsible for respecting the local laws regarding alcohol use.

Inclusivity

The Weekend draws an incredibly diverse crowd in terms of age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and identity. We encourage any woman interested in attending the SisterSpace weekend to ask any questions about the organization and the weekend, and gather as much information as possible so that each woman can make the best decision for herself and the space we've created. It's the hope of SisterSpace that every woman who attends feels comfortable in an extraordinarily freeing, encouraging and safe environment. Each woman who enters the space is asked to do so with an enormous amount of respect, understanding and appreciation. We trust that each woman is capable of evaluating her own potential presence at SisterSpace with regard to these guidelines.

Pet policy

The camp does not allow pets, so please don't bring your dog, cat, ferret, etc. - we'll be forced to turn you away. If you need to find a kennel in the area for your animal companion, email us at sweekend@sisterspace.org and we can point you in the right direction.

Smoking/Open flames

Please note that smoking, open flames (such as candles) and burning incense are not permitted in the cabins. The smoke alarms are very sensitive and will produce an immediate response from the local fire department. Please don’t disrupt the Weekend! "Butt cans" are provided for your use in many of the camp's outdoor areas.
