Welcome to the pre-Weekend planning page for the 30th Anniversary SisterSpace Weekend! This is where you'll find information about what's in store for the big event, and how you can get involved. This page will change and grow in the months leading up to the Weekend, so be sure to check back often to see what's new!

The 30th annivarsary of the Weekend is a proud and auspicious milestone for SisterSpace of the Delaware Valley, and the Board and the Weekend Planners' Committee of SisterSpace are working hard to make sure that this year's Weekend will be a very special event! Be sure to mark September 7th thru September 9th on your calendars - go ahead and put on for those vacation days now, while it's fresh on your mind - and keep reading for more info about what's coming and how you can help.

Looking for Weekend alums.....

One of the more exciting and ambitious projects surrounding the 30th Anniversary Weekend is the Alumni project. Our mission is to find anyone and everyone who has attended, planned, or worked the Weekend over the past 30+ years so that we can share in their memories of how the Weekend - and lesbian culture in general - has changed and evolved over the decades. In order to facilitate this process, we have several fun pre-Weekend events lined up (dates TBA) - so if you're a SisterSpace Weekend (or LFW) alum, drop us a line at sweekend@sisterspace.org or call us at 215-546-4890 and let us know you're out there! And - please feel free to forward this info to any of your other friends or family members who have been involved with the Weekend in the past.

Help get the word out!

Although the planning for this year's Weekend is still in the initial stages, it's never too soon to start spreading the word! If you think that you can help, email us at sweekend@sisterspace.org and let us know. We're looking for folks to take/leave/distribute fliers at lesbian friendly events and establishments, and to tell folks in their various communities and networks about the Weekend. Again - if you can help, drop us an email. (And - if your are a returning SisterSpace worker who is interested in giving us a hand pre-Weekend, a spot on our Advertising Committee might be just what you're looking for! Contact us for details.)

WOC and ODYQ forums

Other goals for the 30th Anniversary Weekend are the return of the ODYQ (Old Dyke, Young Queer) forum and the resurrection of the WOC (Womyn of Color) forum. If you're interested in helping to build either of these forums, email us at sweekend@sisterspace.org. Past organizers of the WOC forum are particularly encouraged to get in touch.

30 for 30 Fund

Putting the Weekend together is an expensive proposition, and the 30th Anniversary Weekend will be no exception! If you can, please consider making a contribution to our 30 for 30 Fund to help support our anniversary year goals and keep the Weekend going for all of us. Click here for more information.

Working the Weekend

Although it will be another month or 2 before we know how many workers we'll need for the Weekend and in what areas, feel free to contact us at volunteer@sisterspace.org if you're interested in working the Weekend with us. In general, being a Worker will require: a $20 contribution to help defray the cost of your meals; at least 16 hours of "on-duty" time at the Weekend; and also, we will need for you to be available from Thursday (9/6) through Monday (9/10). Details may vary, but that's the general idea.

We rely heavily on the hard work of our volunteers to pull off this event year after year, so we ask that all volunteer applicants have a genuine and sincere interest in helping to create our unique community experience. (If you're short on cash and are just looking for a way to attend the Weekend for low/no cost without having to work, we encourage you to apply for a scholarship instead of a work position. Scholarship details will be available in May.)

Trivia

We know what you're thinking: "If the very first Sisterspace Weekend occured in 1975, then why is this the 30th Anniversary? Shouldn't it be the 32nd Anniversary?" Here's the scoop: Although the very first Weekend (which was called the LFW or Lesbian Feminist Weekend back then) happened in '75, the Weekend skipped a couple of years in the '80s and '90s. Thus - although the Weekend's parent organization (currently called Sisterspace of the Delaware Valley) is more than 30 years old, the Weekend has happened only 29 times.
